Wacky Weather.

Yesterday, the high temperature record was broken for my area with a daytime high of 79F. Today has been much the same and it's supposed to continue for the next couple of days.

I've had to use my air-conditioner both in the car and in the house. In December. I do live in the south, but I don't live in the tropics, so these temperatures have been at least 20 degrees higher than what is considered seasonal.

People have been commenting on the "beautiful" weather, but I've been grumbling. I don't like summer in July -- I sure as hell don't like it in December. It's taken the Christmas spirit away and looking at Christmas lights while I'm sweating is oddly incongruous, let alone the vision of Santa in swim trunks.

But the wacky weather did have one advantage, as I was able to have an outdoor hookup earlier this afternoon and, with it being December, sans the insects.

But I'm hoping that it will be at least be cold for Christmas even if we can't have snow.

Move to Idaho if you want wacky weather, one minute it's snowing, next minute it's a gorgeous chilly day. In the summer one minute it'll be hot, then slightly humid, then comes a summer thunderstorm or sheet lightning. I think it's the only state where you will use your AC and heater all in the same day.

People underestimate (or is that 'misunderestimate'?) how important cold weather is to ecosystems. I can tell you from my Michigan experience, a good cold winter does a LOT to help keep pests and plant diseases controlled. If the winter is too warm, in the summertime we have way more mosquitoes and way more insects that eat up the stuff we're growing in our garden. Also, we're more likely to end up with far more oddball fungi and viruses that mess up gardens and make organic gardening VERY difficult.

Mess with ecosystems at your peril, I say :D

It's even warm here today

just think of all the insects that are going to survive winter this year by you...they're going to come back more vicious in the summer.

i have to say we have snow here! it's good too. last year we didn't get snow until february. we're having a more normal winter this year. us michiganers (the UP anyway) hope we get cold temperatures and more snow. lake superior is already low enough, we need a good winter and better melting to make things normal. hello, global warming!

It got all the way up to the low 20s in my part of the U.P. today. Woo-hooooo. Really, it's been colder than normal for the last few weeks, with plenty of below zero weather. For cripes sake, it's like we're in January already.

Never been somewhere warm for Christmas. Santa in shorts ... yeah, that's a stretch. I'll do what I can to ship some cold down your way,

It is whacky! We were thrilled to get into the teens today. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! No outside hook-ups here, unless you are talking about someone plugging their car in.

I would agree with you that warm weather like that makes it hard to get in the Christmas spirit. I'd be feeling the same way as you.

We never know from day to day what the weather will be like here, it's so unpredictable. It was cold and windy today, tomorrow it will probably be warm. I haven't listened to the forecast yet.

It's been near -20C here for the past two weeks...I would not complain at all about a warm Christmas...in my mind at least, it beats being in a deep freeze for five months.

I don't have to worry about Santa wearing shorts around here! As I type this it is -2 F!

Santa would get frost bite on his legs. I don't think there will be any outside hookups either! I wouldn't want parts freezing and falling off!

Wacky weather is all over. Global warming, dude.

But if you really want an unique holiday experience, go to Vegas and watch the gamblers on Christmas Eve.

I swear there is nothing funnier than hearing classic christmas carols while listening to grown people curse like inmates....
