Memories in a Song

Going through the supermarket this evening, I heard an old song that brought back a memory from years ago that I'd not thought about in a long time. It was the old Fifth Dimension song, "Wedding Bell Blues" from 1969.

It's part of my memory because my son's mother used to sing this one to me all the time before we got married (such a subtle hint, hmm). She'd change Bill to Will when singing this song to me. I guess you could say it was "our song".

Reading the words now again after so many years, they still seem oddly appropriate, as the song spoke to my reluctance to marry.

We got married cheap in York S.C. and had a big reception after the vows. Yeah , it was spend all the money on a big wedding or have a kick ass reception. We chose reception. Husband requested lady to be played for a first dance, so the song reminds me of this day.. That was... as of the 25th of this month ..27 years ago. We're still married. Ha, we took off to York, exchanged vows, drove back while guest waited @ my parents house for the reception, aha :)

"Bang a Gong" - Power Station version. This is the song that was playing the first time my first wife and I had sex. There are many others that I associate with her. Some of them have even stirred intense emotions.

I don't really have that with any other woman, except one. There's a girl I went to college with...the "What if..." girl...that I'm reminded of when "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds plays. I took her to see The Breakfast Club. I can still picture every detail of her face when that song plays.

I think there is an official grocery store station out there some place....I hear this song at least three times a week! The really strange part is that when I hear it I think of you and wonder if your ex ever put you with the song!

Our song is "Patience" by Guns n Roses. I walked down the "aisle" to it (We were married in the trailer parks club house so technically there was no aisle) Then latter we had our fist dance together as husband and wife to that song. Good thing my brother-in-law didn't play the song after that....it was "I used to love her so I killed her"!
